Paper Nursery School / 紙の保育園

This temporary nursery school was constructed following the earthquake in Ya'an City, Sichuan, on April 20th, 2013. Lushan County in Ya'an City was terribly damaged, and the Miao Miao Nursery School building in Taiping Town was declared uninhabitable. Therefore, in a nearby temporary housing area, we designed a temporary nursery school made of a paper tube structure, so that the local children would be able to attend。 Within a floor plan size of 6 meters by 21 meters, two classrooms were organized facing each other divided by a central corridor. A trussed roof composed of paper tubes and steel L-angles made it possible to create a column free interior space. This school was built with the help of volunteers from Southwest Jiaotong University and all throughout China, and by students from Shigeru Ban's studio at Kyoto University of Art and Design. Many of the volunteers had worked together before in the construction of the paper tube structured temporary school house for Chengdu Hualin Elementary School in Chengdu, Sichuan, in 2008.

2013年4月20日に四川省雅安市で発生した地震後に建設した仮設の保育園。雅安市芦山県は大きな被害を受け、太平地区にある苗苗（Miao Miao）保育園の建物は使用禁止となった。そこで、近接する仮設住宅団地内に、地元の子どもたちが通えるような紙管による仮設の保育園を計画した。6メートルx 21メートルのなかに二つの教室が通路を挟んで向かい合う。室内は紙管とLアングルによるトラス屋根によって柱のない空間を実現している。 2008年に四川省成都市に華林小学紙管仮設校舎を建設した際にも協働した西南交通大学や中国全土からのボランティア、京都造形芸術大学の坂茂スタジオの学生が参加して建設した。
