THE KAZAKH DRAMA THEATER - Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, 2010

To create unique Eurasian architecture by a fusion of Asian and European cultures, we are adapted three characteristics. Large wooden roof covers entire space and creates one continuous space underneath from inside to outside. Create a continuity of internal and external by glass shutters. All theatres are transformable, adjustments by seasons, occasions and programs. The structure of the buildings consists of reinforced concrete frame with concrete walls and slabs. Efficient steel trusses will be utilized to span the large roof of over the theatre spaces.

アスタナはユーラシア大陸の中央に位置しており、古くはシルクロードを経由し、ヨーロッパ、アジアの文化が伝来していった。そこで、ヨーロッパとアジアの2つの文化を融合したユーラシア独自の建築を計画した。アジア的な建築としては、内外の連続を生み出し、全体の空間を覆う大きな象徴的な屋根を、そして、ヨーロッパ的な建築としては、壁で内外を明確に区切るパビリオンのような建物を提案。さらに、劇場が季節や演目などによって自由に変化・移動できるようにした。この劇場は、より多くの人が体験できるオープンな空間とすべく、透明なガラスシャッター、音響調節用のカーテン、暗幕で劇場を囲い、使い方に合わせて自由に開閉できるようにした。すべてを閉じれば古典的な劇場となり、ガラスシャッターを全開すればホワイエとシアターを一体に使うことができる。
