The triangular plaza that symbolizes the delta of the old Oota River and the Mori Clan family crest is covered in a warm, wooden grid shell structure with a translucent membrane, and is supported by the structure of the surrounding bridges. This allows the plaza to be used regardless of the weather. At the plaza, an information kiosk, book store, flower shop, cafe, and other shops are conveniently located for the passengers and users of the station.

広島のアストラムラインの新駅、JRとの乗りかえ通路をいかに都市に開かれた広場にするかがテーマだった。幹線道路をわたるブリッジから、中州へ２本のブリッジをかけ、三角形上に囲まれたスペースに木造屋根をかけ、広場を生み出す計画とした。広場には、周辺地域を紹介する情報キオスクや日常的に利用する本屋・花屋・カフェなどの店舗ユニットを配置し、利用客の利便性を充実させた。
